Fluoride in Water: Safe and Effective
More than 70 years of scientific research has consistently shown that an optimal level of fluoride community water is safe and effective in reducing tooth decay by at least 25% in both children and adults. Simply by drinking water, Americans can benefit from fluoride’s cavity protection whether they are at home, work or school. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention named community water fluoridation one of 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.
The previous statement can be found on the Fluoride and Fluoridation page of the American Dental Association website. There are also several links to helpful information resources and a handy FAQ section. Fluoridation of public drinking water has made this great health benefit available to millions of people at a very low cost and, repeatedly, when the issue comes up for debate in local communities, the decision is made to begin/continue water fluoridation.
